Hey everyone,

I am looking for advice on a pc build. This would be a brand new build and I’m looking to be conservative with the budget but at the same time if it’s make or break in performance then I’d pay the extra price. I’m looking to do a lot of video editing, gaming, and streaming. I have had intel computers my entire life, and I don’t know if the AMD new line is worth it over the price of intel. I am trying to stay under $2000 but would like to build the best gaming, streaming, and editing computer for the price. Don’t get me wrong, it would be nice not to spend the entire budget but looking to game on a 240hz Alienware moniter. I also don’t want to have to worry about bottle necking, FPS issues, and other issues if possible (I know nothing is perfect and issues can arise.) best performance for the best price, but if someone could assist in whether or not one build max, is going to be justified over a 1500, or below pc. Thanks in advance and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I take it I will need a new OS but I have the mouse, monitor and keyboard.

Gaming, streaming, and editing, you are going to want a Ryzen 2700x. Does your budget include the monitor? That price is ludicrous for a 1080p monitor. You are in 1440p territory with that one. This is with the assumption that the monitor is not part of the total budget.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7GHz 8-Core Processor ($319.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG - R1 Universal 76.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($89.84 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock - X470 Master SLI/AC ATX AM4 Motherboard ($148.87 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill - Sniper X 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3600 Memory ($144.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: ADATA - XPG 512GB...
Currently the most important piece and (by far), most expensive of the gaming computer is the GPU. It can represent 50% of the total cost. Also, from the chosen GPU it is relatively easy to determine the minimum for the rest of the elements

To determine the GPU you need it is necessary to know the monitor you are going to use (mainly the resolution). It is very different if it is a Full HD, a QHD (2K) or a 4K.

To be honest I was looking at the Alienware AW2518HF but was also looking at ultra-wide or 4K moniters. I’m kind of set on the Alienware for gaming and other purposes unless you believe something is better. I was looking at a 1080 TI but I don’t know what type of ti. I’m just having issues trying to get the rest. Don’t really know that much with regards to builds.

GTX 1080 ti is a good GPU that allows you to play up to 4K, but not quite fast enough for 4K gaming at top quality preset. Maybe it will be better to stay in QHD or FHD and get more FPS and high setting.

To pair with a GTX 1080 TI you need a CPU Intel (I7-8700K o I7-8700 if you dont like OC) or a AMD (Ryzen 7 2700x or 2700).

If you like OC need also a very good mobo (chipset Z370 if intel) or (chipset X470 if AMD).
If you dont like OC can choose a cheaper B360 intel, B450 AMD.

You need a 450W / 550W PSU. Choose a PSU of "gold" quality. You do not need more power unless you want to put two GPUs, but above all that is of quality.

power consumption on 8700k can peak over 130W. not that you will max it frequently. I'd still go with a 550-650W+ psu. 1080ti is a 250W gpu. it's best to have 100W or more over what you might need. The PSU has best efficiency around 50%. OC parts may pull some more power. a brown out can destroy all components.
