With that resolution and one of the cards mentioned, you should be getting good fps on medium-high settings.
 


thats fine for 1024x768. You cpu will still be a limiting factor, its quite slow by today's standards. It would really struggle with some newer games.
 


Unless your 1024x768 monitor is refreshing at 250Hz, which it's not, you would never see those framerates on your monitor anyway...even if your monitor was that fast, you're eyes are never going to perceive that.

If your getting 170fps, then there is no reason to upgrade. like has been said, you monitor cant refresh that fast anyway, the only thing that can see fps that high is fraps.........
 
not really, because your monitor is probably only at 60hz, which means it updates 60 times a second, any frames over 60 a second don't make any difference visually whatsoever. If you have a 144hz monitor, then anything past 144 frames per second is wasted as well.

no matter how many frames you push at your monitor, only as many as how many hz your monitor is capable of will make it through.
