Im on the market for a new monochrome laserprinter. I dont know anything about these. This is going to be for home use nothing specific. My nearest computer store has the following Canon LBP2900 Laser Printer and HP LaserJet 1022 Laser Printer. There is also the Samsung ML-1610 Laserjet Printer which costs 1/2 the price of the others mentions. The HP is just a little bit more expensive the the Canon.

Anyone suggestions or any other particular model I should look for ?

To sandrof,

For what its worth, there is a current thread on the peripherals section of anand tech on exactly that question. With lots of fans of the samsung and lots of fans of then HP's. I can't say that Canon is especially noted in the area of Laser printers.

But for you that decision may depend on lots of personal variables like printing volume, your budget, risk tolerance, and how much time you are willing to invest in research. And the question also becomes are you wedded to your local computer store?--with many better bargains to be had on line. But then you have that other variable of shipping.---but look to places like newegg---or just google the make and model and get on line current prices from various sellers.

Consider also that there are a plethora of mostly HP business models available used on ebay that will feature higher much higher quality and lower toner consumable costs than that found on a new low cost prosumer Laser model of any make.---with business class lasers frequently having
many hundreds of thousands of pages on the odometer and still going strong.

But short easy answer---from what I hear---spend the few extra bucks and get the HP1022. In a few years the extra bucks will amortise out to be a small amount in your total cost of ownership.

Thanks very much for your information! Im sorry I didnt mention that I live in Malta and to buy a printer online is not an option for me ! The shipping costs will exceed the cost of the printer for sure! So I have to look whats available locally.

I sure won't claim to know anything about Malta but still recommend that you do check out your local used markets. --companies upgrade their printers all the time and then must do something with those that still work. Local adds or anything else you can find--sometimes you just have to get creative.

But if you end up in the new printer market at the local computer store--its still your money and your choice---you can get online reviews of various products---but the more unbaised reviews might be found on Tom hardware guide, the nifty stuff forums, or steves digicams.

Since shipping costs can kill you, also check out what your local computer store stocks in terms of replacement parts and supplies like consumable toner.---being isolated can have its joys but waiting for supplies can be annoying and leave you without a printer for a long time.---so you might place extra priority on reliabity and local support.

i work for a samsung service centre and from my opinioin that samsung are much easier to fix than any other printer that ive come accross also refilling the toner cartridges is also very simple id go for an ml4100 hp and canon are good but if there is a fault in them they can be very difficult to fix as they are porly manufactured and the parts are packed in very tight, so id go for samsung!!!! 😀
