This has probably been asked before but I am new into building a pc. I've decided to take the plunge and build my own. Can't be that hard . I'm just looking into the cpu and motherboards and have no idea what to get. I was thinking of sticking with an intel cpu bit i5 or i7? This will be my gaming rig as well. just lost on finding the right cpu and motherboard options. Thanks for your advice. I just feel overwhelmed with all the options out there.

Well, it all depends on your budget. Since youre gaming, I would recommend an i5 4690. The difference between an i5 and an i7 when gaming are minimal if any.
The i7 is more optimized for multi-threaded tasks instead of gaming, although it handles that fine as well. As for motherboards, I would really recommend either the Asus z97a or the MSI z97 krait.

Any case should be fine, but be sure it fits your motherboard and your aftermarket CPU cooler if you have one. I would also recommend on deciding on some sort of color scheme, so your computer doesn't look odd with a yellow case and a green motherboard as an example.

I've found PC part picker is a good place to begin looking:

Thank you. Just seems overwhelming with all the parts but everything is compatible with each other and I'm going to get the video card today; a GTX 970. I bought a full tower from corsair with a nice color scheme that matches the mother board and parts as suggested and everything was right within my budget, actually under and I was shocked. Optimistic this will go well.
