looking for a cpu for a old motherboard

hi i have a motherboard named gigabyte ga-945gcmx-s2,i would like to upgrade my cpu from intel core 2 duo e4300 to intel core 2 quad e6600,will the quad e6600 work on this motherboard? here are the spec for this pc.intel core 2 duo e4300, 3gb ram, sapphire r7 240, 450w power supply,windows xp 32bit service pack 3. waiting for the responds, thanks!

The E6600 is supported but it's a 2 core CPU, not a 4 core CPU. The quad 6600 is known as a Q6600 and is NOT supported.

hi countmike i check on the website that u provided and the website say the intel core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz does support the motherboard.so is it true? because there's another person say it will not work on this motherboard.

The BIOS version required for it shows N/A so it's iffy but all you can do is try or find somebody with same combination.
List also shows higher PU models so chances to work are good.
In any case you should flash newest BIOS before you try.
