I need an upgrade from my i5-3570 and I have been looking into a ryzen because they seem to have a better price for performance if im just interested in gaming. Im looking into getting the Ryzen 7 1700x 8 core. Will this CPU last me for a good amount of time before I have to upgrade? Im also looking at these two bundles that are similar besides the Motherboard. One has a much more expensive motherboard, is that one worth getting over the other? I can understand why the RAM is more expensive but I just cant understand what id be getting out of a better motherboard. Thanks!

Also if you have any better suggestions as to what I should get that would be great there are probably better cpu's that are not crazy expensivet and Im just not aware. Right now Im using a gtx 1080 ftw with a 1440p monitor.

Good amount of time is a little subjective. A year, a couple, 5 to 10? Just depends on what you are shooting for. I run an R7 1700 and have yet to see a program that hasn't benefited from the new chip, I came from an fx8320. I game, stream and do design work all on my pc and it runs anything i've thrown at it wonderfully.

The difference between the combos is this

x370 - better power phasing for more stable overclocks
- usually higher stable memory clocks
- usually more usb 3.0 hubs
- usually more sata ports
B350 - Cheaper board with less substantial power delievery
- max 4 full speed sata 3 ports (ones that don't share a pcie lane with)
- Lower memory speeds (stability)

As for the memory in...

As for the memory in the system, the one with the x370 is also rgb memory which for some reason led's on a memory stick cause it to be way more expensive. The speed of it is also drastically different. Going from 2400 to 3200 memory speeds will add some fps in games usually a 5% to maybe 10% in memory bandwidth games or production applications.

Also to note, unless things have changed, I think with the 1700x you might need to buy a cooler for it, I don't remember if they are selling them now with stock coolers. If not, you can look at the 2700 or the 2700x bundles and see if there are ones there, those both come with pretty good stock coolers.

Thanks for all the info its really helpful! Also its seems that the 2700x is the safer choice for future gaming, I was referring to just a couple years (maybe 2-3) But if I can get something that will perform well for even longer I should probably go with that option. I will definitely look into those combos that you sent, would you say the combo with the slightly more expensive motherboard is the best option because ill get more out of it?

Most people have said that if you are going for the 2700x, go with a x470 board just for the more stable power and the xfr2 boost features. Also the extra features I would shoot for, I am in a position of thinking that my board which is great now, b350 tomahawk, but wish i had the couple extra things from a X board. You might also be able to check to see if you can make a slightly cheaper combo.
