So I am looking to get 2 laptops for my kids, I can spend tons around $500 each would be the limit. They laptops will not be for gaming or anything like that. It will mainly be for school work, web browsing and photos from their phones etc.

I would have liked a macbook of some sort but they all are to expensive, unless someone knows a deal there. But is there any good reliable laptops that anyone knows that fit that criteria?

Thanks in advance.

The laptop is actually decent enough to play games like Minecraft at full resolution. It can even be used to play Fallout 4 decently enough at 1366x768... however not recommended for minors.

However, Acer laptops are only considered to be of average quality so they are a far cry from Apple laptops. But they do offer good value...

If you want something that is more durable, but more expensive and only has a 1366x768 resolution screen (the Acer is one of the few laptops for less than $500 with a 1080p screen), then consider the 13" ThinkPad 13 starting at $454. They meet the Dept. of Defense MIL-Spec requirements for equipment to be used by the military in the field (not in the office) which means they need to be semi-rugged so that they can survive rough handling. It is also pretty light at 3.2lbs which should be light enough for kids even in elementary school to carry around.
