Looking for a decent laptop for around $500

Hey everyone, a friend of mine is looking for a reasonably fast laptop for 500 USD. He doesn't plan to play many games on the system, as he already has a dedicated gaming build. Sadly, I cannot help very much, as my knowledge of laptops is not very extensive. Please leave some suggestions, they are always appreciated.

He wants a laptop that can use the internet at a decently fast speed. He doesn't care about screen size, he just wants the system to be fast.
I do have one comment on your suggested system. That processor doesn't look very appealing, considering it runs at only 1.8 GHz. I understand that clock speed isn't everything, but I have a Pentium that has a higher speed than that.

Basically a 500 dollar laptop from anyone will be made with parts for a 500 dollar laptop. I would look at Newegg, Tiger Direct and Costco is they are in his area. Costco offers some of the best electronic warranties in the business.
