looking for a good free driver update tool

title says it all. just want to update all my outdated drivers for my sound and mouse and crap like that.

Myself, I rather go to the sites that make the stuff and get them and install them myself. Half these "free" driver tools are full of spam and ad's and crap.

Windows update works great for this. Most drivers do not need to be updated: they do not get out of date. Unless things aren't working, you really don't need to and probably shouldn't update drivers. Any exceptions to this will show up in windows update. Any software claiming to do better is probably harmful.

"SlimDrivers" is what I use... some people suggest not using any driver updater under the assumption they are unsafe but I have used this program for years without a single issue... so, I just disable all it's automatic functions and leave it installed but if you don't trust it, remove it after updating your drivers.

I have used Secunia PSI for this purpose. The free version is less automated, but is probably what you want. It will direct you to vendor web sites to get updated drivers.

thanks, main reason for this is i my speakers work sometimes and dont others. a reboot always fixed it but there is no rhyme or reason and its annoying. now i my speakers wont work at all, i accedently disabled by clicking the volume icon on the widows tray. any help getting them back

Click the volume icon again, make sure it isn't muted, and move the volume sliders up.

Motherboard drivers do not often need to be updated, unless they fix a specific issue you are having, but sound and video drivers both should be updated.
Installing a video card that outputs sound through HDMI can sometimes interfere with existing sound drivers, or it may switch your default output device from your speakers to the HDMI.
