I recently found an old workstation at my office and wondered if I could turn it into somewhat of a gaming pc.
It currently has:
>Xeon W3503 CPU
>525W PSU
>prebuilt mobo
>256 GB HDD
I want to buy a nice cheap gpu for some slight gaming that wont bottleneck the cpu. Any suggestions?

not the strongest processor out there with 2 lower clocked 2.8ghz cores and no hyperthreading. most newer gpus are going to be held back to some degree. hard to say which gpu would be a match since that is not a common cpu for gaming. I wouldn't recommend adding a gpu to it, you probably won't like the performance.

If anything, your CPU is going to bottleneck your GPU. That Xeon is of the original i7 generation, comparable to an i7-920 or less (frequency on the Xeon is lower).
That being said, most games aren't going to have an issue running on that platform. Anything current generation will do fine, depending on what resolution you'll be running at. 1080p or 2.5K are going to be fine with the right GPU, but I wouldn't suggest going to 4K without upgrading the CPU/Ram to something current.
