I'm looking for a KVM switch that always sends a signal to the monitor.

I have two laptops. One is an old Dell Latitude running Ubunto 20.04. I can disconnect and reconnect the KVM cable, no problem. Reconnect, and the display comes right back up.

The other laptop is a Lenovo T480s running RHEL 8.7 If I disconnect the HDMI cable from it, it stops being able to figure out displays. I can reconnect the cable, but have to open the lid and wait for the displays to sort themselves out. Then I can close it, but the moment I switch away from it, I'm right back to where I started.

A bonus would be additional USB ports that switch, so my external camera can follow the keyboard, mouse, and monitor. And the cherry on top would be able to switch the headphone jack.

What KVM switch do you have now? Make, model, connection/connectivity options?

For two computers (laptops) and two monitors you may need a different KVM switch.

Something like this Amazon offering:

(Not a recommendation or endorsement.)

Sketch out your own connection diagram similar to the third image in the link.

Show all ports and cables. Include port types, genders, etc..

Then search as necessary for a KVM switch that matches your requirements.

Be sure to read all fine print and caveats. Details matter.
