Hello everyone,
I work with a lot of data and my CPU is mostly on 100%. I'm looking to upgrade my PC and I could really use your help.
Here's my current setup:
  • Motherboard: PRIME B350-PLUS
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 1600x Overclocked to 4GHz
  • RAM: Corsair 2 x 32GB (64GB) 3000MHz C16
  • GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti

  • I don't need to upgrade my GPU at my current state.
  • I'm not planning on giving this PC to any friend or family, so any component being upgraded means I'll be selling the old one.
I want to upgrade my CPU, which means I'll need to upgrade my motherboard as well, and I may also upgrade my RAM.

For the CPU, I'm considering the Ryzen 9 5900X because I found a great "used" deal nearby. However, I'm concerned that upgrading to a many-core CPU might affect the single-core performance of my system, especially if the software I'm using isn't optimized for multi-core CPUs, which is often the case. I tend to multiprocess my overnight scripts, so my CPU usage reaches 100%, but that's not always the case.

Regarding RAM, upgrading should theoretically make an impact since I'm constantly loading and saving data throughout the day. However, I've heard conflicting information about RAM speed and whether it actually makes a significant difference. I would love to hear from people with experience whether upgrading from high speed, such as 3000MHz, to ultra-high speed, like 4000MHz CL14, actually improved their results significantly. If the improvement is only 1%, I'm not interested in spending so much money on it.

As for the motherboard, I've noticed that motherboards for the 7000 series are extremely expensive, so the Ryzen 7000 series may not be for me. Additionally, I've never understood why I shouldn't buy a simple motherboard, like the cheapest one that fits my CPU. If someone can explain to me how much of an impact a more expensive motherboard would make, I would consider spending more, but if not, I would appreciate a budget option for a motherboard. Having 4 RAM slots is a great bonus, but not a deal breaker.

Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it!

if it's not for gaming and data processing like you said then you have to look for the cheaper Threadripper cPU's .
they're the best out there .
Can u explain your comment, I dont understand.. Im not looking for a gaming PC, im looking for a machine learning PC with a solid CPU. are u saying that the cpu is not for me? how come? can u recommend any other CPU?

AMD Threadripper are now more popular than , than Intel 2066 and Xeon too . they are for the task you're looking for , multi threading ; but they're super expensive too .
