Title says it all, I have in mind the z87 g1 sniper, people say it will just do and others recommend the ASrock Fatal1ty z97 killer saying its basically built for overclocking so what should I go for? The ASrock is more expensive in my country so keep that in mind please :)

Solution

You should go for a Z97 chipset.

Firstly, make sure your cooler can support the high overclock.

For a slightly cheaper price you can get high overclocks on this motherboard:
Asus Z97-A

For higher overclocking, you should go with this excellent motherboard:
ASRock Z97 EXTREME6

For extreme overclocking, this is an excellent option:
ASRock Z97 OC

Think the ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer has 4 true power phases so It's all you need for overclocking an Intel LGA 1150 processor. Next to that it comes with some solid features, but I preferred the Fatal1ty Performance series because it comes with a more trusted and more highly preferred Intel Gigabit LAN, rather than Killer E2200 LAN.

Forgive my ignorance cause ik little about mobos. Could you tell me what's the difference between the 2 I posted above or maybe recommend one?

Firstly, the G1 Sniper has a Z87 chipset which is slightly older than the Z97.
The Z87 was released when the i5 4670K and i7 4770K
The Z97 was for the i5 4690K and i7 4790K, the devil's canyon refresh.

However, you can still use the Z87 for the devil canyon CPU's if you update your motherboard and everyone should update their motherboard anyways when they set up their build.

The Z97 Killer supports up to 3200 Mhz for the RAM and i believe you will go no where near that, so that shouldn't be an issue. The G1 Sniper goes up to 3000 Mhz.

They both do not support SLI.

the Z97 Killer has a 8 voltage regulators which is a nice number for overclocking. (on haswell)
Seems like the G1 Sniper has 8 voltage regulators too, however the Z97 Killer is more suited for better overclocking as the components are slightly higher quality in general.
