Hi, I'm currently looking for a monitor to run my laptop through. In the long run, I will be buying two of these monitors and using them with a full desktop PC. I'm not sure if that's relevant but I thought I would add.

1. What Is Your Country Of Origin?

UK

2. What do you plan to do with this monitor? (ex. Games, Movie Watching, Photo Editing, etc.)

Games, movie watching, photo/video editing, streaming (not sure if relevant)

3. What resolution and screen size do you want?

I would like a 4K but if restricted by budget I'd be happy with 1080. As I'm going to run these side by side (eventually when I get around to buying both) I want a screen size that's not going to be overbearing when next to each other but at the same time can be used very comfortably as standalones. Anything between 20"-27" should do.

4. What refresh rate do you want? (ex. 60 hz , 70 hz.)

High as possible. Again I'm sure 60 Hz will be perfectly fine but if I can get more then why not?

5. How much are you looking to spend?

Less than £300, I could stretch up to £400 if it was really worth it however I'd like to keep it around £300 as I tend to get carried away easily.

6. Brands Preferred (ex. Samsung, Acer, Asus, AOC, HP, Viewsonic, etc. )

No preferred brand but I'd want one with a good reputation. Samsung, Acer, BenQ, Asus, etc. I've never heard of AOC or Viewsonic but if they're a reputable company then I'd be happy to use them.

i was concerned abt the gpu.. the laptop has a 720p display.. if you switch to a 1080p resolution to it then your gpu will drop framerates

you may buy a 1080p display but you have to stick to a 720p res for a decent gaming experience with that gpu

As long as that's possible then I'm okay with that. It's just temporarily while I can save the money to put together a desktop. Would it be possible to do that with a 4K monitor? So could I get a 4K monitor but just run it at 720p res while using my laptop then up it once I build my PC?

If it limits the options I have, in terms of monitor choice, I'd rather wait until I've built the rig to get the monitors.

it is possible to keep 720p res on 4k

by the way even if you are building a pc later .. gaming in 4k is going to be very expensive... you will need to sli/crossfire gpu cards to get 60fps

i suggest you to buy a 1080p 144hz monitor.... it is very ideal for your laptop and your future pc build

I will probably go for that then. Do you have any specific suggestions?

I understand that gaming in 4K will be expensive but I'm fairly certain it's not really worth it at the minute anyway. However I'd like to have the option to be able to upgrade just my PC components. It'd be better to get 4K monitors now, even if I'm not using them for 4K at the minute, so that I have 4K monitors when I get my PC (will be built to handle 4K gaming).

If you think a 1080p is more practical for my budget, however, then that's fine. Do you have any you'd recommend?
