Looking for a Motherboard Recommendation

Hello, I currently have a EVGA gtx 980 and am looking to get a i7 4790K processor (open to other recommendations) I doubt I will be overclocking so if i have to drop the K as a compromise it would not be a huge deal but a friend told me it would run much quicker default. The only issue is I have an older motherboard that doesn't support more modern socket types such as it. My budget is around $500-600 with the processor priced at $330. I mainly play games and wish to be able to record while still managing 60 frames on newer games.
In the future i would like to purchase a sound card so I would like the necessary connectors that I think they require.

How do you figure he's going to game at a high level with the i5 AND record/stream. He needs the additional threads if he plans to do both to any playable degree.

Honestly, you'd be just as well off using a Xeon, which is the same exact processor as the i7 but without the integrated graphics, and is priced more like an i5.

That configuration will game every bit as good as the 4790k and has the same single core performance as well. The extra 500mhz clock speed the 4790k has over the 4790 and the Xeon 1231 hasn't been shown to offer any performance gains when gaming, that I've seen. In fact, that's exactly why the 4690k with only four cores puts up about the same numbers as the i7. So the Xeon with it's additional threads is more than capable of similar performance.

Thank you so much for the quick response and I only plan to do any kind of SLI if im unable to hit 60 FPS on most games

What resolution and game settings are you planning to game at? The GTX 980 should be able to handle max settings at 1080p for pretty much any current title at 60FPS. Higher resolutions might require dropping to high settings or adding a second card.
