Hey all, I'm not too well versed on motherboards but i will be upgrading my GPU to a GTX 970 and then SLI-ing my current GPU on my partners computer, however her current motherboard doesn't support sli (its a Asrock B75 M)

What i need is somthing that can support 2 way SLI and has a socket type of LGA1155 (for an Intel i5-3570). Cheaper is better for me if at all possible.

Thanks for any help

P.S this is the one i was currently looking at, just looking for a second opinion:

Solution
Since there are no more Z77 boards available it's a take what you can get market. The board you found is good for your needs. You could search Ebay and possibly find a new one instead of used, although the cost may be prohibitive.
Thanks for the reply, you wouldn't happen to know a specific board would you? my searches came back with hundreds of options and most of them are unavailable in stores and tbh i don't know enough about motherboards to tell which models are better

also is there a reply function or do i have to make another answer on this website?

You picked the right board. Only variations would be brand and size but the AsRock is solid and you want full ATX size for SLI. Unless you can find a new Z77 ATX board at Ebay for about the same price you should get the AsRock. Obviously there's some risk buying used but your choices are limited unless you're prepared to make a new build.

What are the gpu's you're thinking of sli-ing??

I ask simply because dropping $150 on a board to run 2 old cards in sli in my eyes isnt really worth it.

& $150 is what youre going to have to pay for a z77 or a p67 sli compatible board & likely second hand unless you're very very lucky.

out of curiosity what would happen if i tried to do the sli on my b75 pro3-m? it says on the website that it only has 1 PCIe 3.0 x16 Slot but on the card it does actually have a second identical slot. what would happen if i just put another 660ti in there with a bridge?

you can see a pic here: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/B75%20Pro3-M/

@matmatt30
it would be 2 Asus GTX 660 Ti cards, it just ended up being cheaper than buying a new card since i already have access to them and am just missing the bridge and mobo

^ it won't work as sli mate , that board is crossfire only.
You could run both cards independently for more video outs but not be able to unify the performance as sli does.I'm with you on already owning the cards but the fact is $150 on a new board is an awful lot of money to spend sli'ing 2 old cards.
If you sold them for say $50-60 each it'd be cheaper to drop an extra $100 on a 380x instead , you'll have a brand new GPU then which performs on a par or better.

i thought that twin 660's performed about the same as a single 970? the new mobo plus the bridge is about $200 and the cheapest i could find a 970 at is $400. The goal here is to upgrade two pc's on the cheap and have them end up at roughly the same quality.
