Hi,
I have a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R rev 1 with a 130-watt core i7 930. I would like to upgrade to a Xeon X5675 but it is 95 watts. The only site I could find said the only rev 2 could support below 130 watts but I have seen someone else's CPU-Z information and they have a rev 1 running a 95 watt Xeon X5650. I was wondering whether anyone could help me with this.
Thanks-Ash

The true difference is the X5675 is from the later Westmere line. Typically for a motherboard made for the 'tick' CPUs to use a 'tock' CPU the company, Gigabyte in your case, would issue a bios update. This would allow for the use of the CPU. I'd examine the bios updates available for your motherboard if I was you, to see if it included such support.
