I built a new PC and also need to replace my 1tb Western Digital Black because I am running out of room on it. I purchased a 2tb Black because I had such good luck with the 1tb, but that was a MISTAKE. Upon first start up and first shutdown, I experienced the same issue so many others experienced...

That being said, I got an RMA from NewEgg and I am now on the hunt for a Data drive.

I have a WD 512gb NVMe drive that will have my OS and programs (Photoshop, Lightroom, AutoCAD...) on it. I need something that has a lot of storage, is fast (for transfering photos to it, loading previews, and read/writing to and from lightroom), and reliable. I cant have a drive that is prone to failure. I do have a NAS unit that I run realtime backups to, just in the case of disc failure, but that is besides the point. I want reliable.

I am currently between:
2tb WD Gold (doesnt seem to have the same issue as the black)
2tb Seagate FireCuda
2tb Seagate BarraCuda Pro

I wanted to go HSGT, however after reading about their acquisition by WD, I am not sure I am comfortable going that route.

I hate Toshiba drives just because I had 3 of them fail on me within a 14 month time frame WHILE in college, so I lost valuable information each and every time. (I wasnt the best with backups back then)

Please suggest what you feel I should look at either based on opinion, experience, studies or whatever knowledge you may have. Thank you for your time and assistance!

Enterprise grade drives aren't really more reliable, it's just a gimick!
And there's no point with getting a firecuda one (if it's not gonna be used as an OS drive)
I'd suggest you get a standard (non pro) baracuda drive.

Do you suggest Seagate over WD? or is going with a WD blue or black edition just as good? I could get 2 WD Blue 1tb drives and set up as raid 0 for cheaper than the 2tb i am getting a refund for...

Personally, I've had better luck with Seagate's.
And in terms of data safety, last thing you wanna do is use RAID0, RAID1 would be better.

The drive you linked, 4TB BarraCuda ST4000DM004, is 5900 RPM. That particular capacity of BarraCuda is where there is a speed change in the lineup. Smaller capacities of 3.5" BarraCuda will be 7200 RPM. Just a heads up. The Pro lineup, all capacities are 7200 RPM if you wanna go that route.
