Hi all

I can barely run new games on my current pc so I think its time that I got a new one.

I was originally intending on going all out and getting an i7 and a 2080ti etc but I've now decided that unfortunately those things are out of my price range!

I would put my budget at around £1,500 for now. I have very quickly put together a basket on www.aria.co.uk for £1,492.51 and is as follows:

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/bWNfZR

On part picker is says that there are potential compatibility issues which I was not sure about?

Although there were some parts on there that are not actually correct because i could not find them on part picker and I have subsituted them for similar priced parts. Those are:

The graphics card is really this:
https://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/PALIT+NVIDIA+GeForce+RTX+2070+Dual+R2+8GB+Graphics+Card+%2B+FREE+Battlefield+V+or+ANTHEM+?productId=70300

and the case is really this:
https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Cases/Midi+Tower/ASUS+TUF+Gaming+GT501+Tempered+Glass+Aura+Sync+Gaming+Case+?productId=70374

A few things to note, I think some people may think the case is a little expensive but with my last pc I opted for a more expensive case and really saw the benefits personally. Having said that I was previously looking at cases in the £200 range and have very quickly chosen this one based on aesthetics without really knowing how good it is.

I also know that the RAM is probably a little overpriced and there is probably RAM that has the same perfmance for around £100. As well as this I think most will say that I don't really need the AIO Kraken cooler.

The only thing that I was thinking here is that the total I think I would save would be around £100 if I were to get a cheaper CPU cooler and cheaper RAM, and that would allow me to potentially get an i7? But i thought for gaming purposes I am not sure how much of a difference that would make.

I play multiple games, including more recent demanding games such as BF5, will play anthem etc and would like to run them on high settings. My monitor is quite demanding, it is a:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N7POYOR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The case sits on my desk so I kind of do want it to look quite nice, hence the RGB RAM and cooler.

Sorry for the long post, thanks for any feedback :)

cooler is overkill, so does case. expensive doesn't mean it is good quality imo. no need for nvme ssd. Palit does not make high end gpu's.

What games do you play? setting and resolution, fps preferred? Monitor specs? Do you stream?

At the moment I'm playing Battlefield 5, Apex legends as its just been released, played the anthem demo but my pc couldnt run it over 60fps so had to get it on ps4 in the end. But will be buying it on pc when it is released. I play on 3440x1440 most games.

Ideally 100+ fps on ultra settings for most games. I don't stream at the moment but i would like to be able to.

Add HDD later on:

Looks nice! thanks, a few questions,

What makes that case worth £60 more than the one that i mentioned?

Would you only go ryzen because the stock cooler is useable? Most things I've read online seems to say that the 9600k slightly outperforms the 2700x when gaming but only by a tiny amount.

What do you think of this?

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/VTZnBb

I thought the m2 would be fine as it was the same price as the SATA SSD that you included? I just chose that case again to get it under the 1500 mark but I would push it up to £1530 if the case that you sent is really worth it?

I don't see any trustworthy reviews on the case, however, I picked one of the best I can find on that website, you can change it :) My pick has very good airflow and rgb feature, not to mention build quality. ASUS is not well-known for pc cases IMHO.
Ryzen is due to potential to stream. It will be better or on par compared to I7-8700k plus rgb stock cooler, will definitely win over I5 for gaming while streaming.
M2 is fine, but I usually leave it open for potential NVME ssd if needed.
If you decide to go with You list, it needs a beefier cooler to overclock 9600k. Also MB VRM is not very good for overclocking either, but extreme4 is. A tier list for VRM: https://www.overclock.net/forum/27657582-post2156.html#/topics/1638955?page=216&gid=1&pid=1

I will not pick any tufs for 9600k.

Question from nsellenbrown96 : "New gaming rig ~ £1500"

Hi all

Made a post earlier about wanting a new gaming pc, and it seems to have come down to 2 potential options, they are the following:

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/TFTvtg

and

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/wFkkr6

The pc is for gaming in 3440x1440. Games such as battlefield 5, anthem, apex legends etc. Would ideally be able to stream which but main aim is to just to consistently have high fps (100+) on highest settings if possible.

My monitor is:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N7POYOR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My knowledge of it is that the ryzen would be better for the streaming side of things but seeing as that isnt a priority I've read that the i5 9600k is about 5% better overall?

Also is the m.2 SSD compatible because pc part picker says there may be some issues?

Thanks for any responses in advance :)

Question from nsellenbrown96 : "Looking for advice on my new gaming PC (£1500)"

I'd get a Z390 motherboard as there's no guarantee the BIOS has been updated on the Z370 motherboard.

The compability message is due to the tendency of SATA slots and M.2 slots and sometimes lesser PCIE slots share resources. It's only an issue if you need a lot of SATA slots. This was a problem for me given that I have nine drives on my main rig, so I had to pay attention to this issue quite a bit when doing some Z370 motherboard shopping this summer. But it may not be a problem for you if you don't have a bunch of chunky old hard drives.

I'd probably get the Intel in this case. The Ryzens are wonderful CPUs, but if this is a gaming-heavy rig -- there's no mention of substantial productivity needs -- the Intel platforms just do that little extra sliver better. As long as it's not costing you a GPU downgrade, the Intel is what I would go with. But in truth, you can't go that far wrong with a Ryzen build, the platform being a long distance from the dreadful AM3+ generation.

Hi DSzymborski

Thanks for the reply, do you have any recommendations on the z390 motherboard?

I was told that TUF stuff wasnt very god but this is what I found that I think may be still affordable:
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/YXqhP6/asus-tuf-z390-plus-gaming-wi-fi-atx-lga1151-motherboard-tuf-z390-plus-gaming-wi-fi

Then on the slightly more expensive side there are these two:
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/BvQG3C/asus-rog-strix-z390-h-gaming-atx-lga1151-motherboard-rog-strix-z390-h-gaming

and

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/2k3H99/asus-prime-z390-a-atx-lga1151-motherboard-prime-z390-a

I've read good things about the Prime one, and I tend to assume that ROG stuff will be good, but that just show my limited knowledge I guess!

FYI for compatibility reasons I should also tell you that I will be putting this in from my old pc if the motherboard doesn't have wifi:
TP Link 300Mbps Wireless N PCI Adapter - TL-WN851ND

I think immediately I won't be overclocking but I would like something that has the potential to be overclocked. I also chose that one because sadly I do have to use wifi so I thought it could save me some money on a wireless adapter. What do you think?
