Alright so I have been doing alot of research on computers and especially graphics cards because I am buying a new computer. I have decided either an MSI R9 380 4GB/ Sapphire R9 380 NITRO 4GB or a Sapphire R9 290 4GB Tri-x OC. These cards are both very expensive in New Zealand. The cheapest price I have found brand in stock for brand new 290 tri-x is 700 NZD. One is 540nzd but its out of stock. Cheapest for MSI 380 is 475NZD. Cheapest I have found nitro is 380 NZD. These cards are much more expensive than in the US.
Online I can find the MSI card for 180 USD at newegg. Or I can get the sapphire nitro for 195 USD from Amazon. What would be really awesome though if I could get a sapphire 290 tri-x 4gb. These are too expensive new from international stores though so it would either be a refurbished one for 240 usd from gpushack or a used one from /r/hardwareswap for around 200~220 usd.
So there are alot of options. I would take the used one from hardwareswap in a heartbeat, but im afraid it will blow up and ill be 200 usd down the drain. I have heard though that most problems with GPU occur with new ones when you first get them. The 240 usd one from gpushack comes with 2 years warranty and I can ship it back to us for 30 nzd for RMA if it comes to that... but I could be waiting a long time for it to become available. So yeah I got a few options:
1. Buy used off hardware swap for a great price... hope it goes smoothly and runs well.
2. Buy off GPUshack, get a decent card for decent price, spend a bit of money on postage if RMA is needed.
3.Get a slightly less powerful card (r9 380) new with 30 day money back and access to RMA (although tricky, trickier than GPUshack RMA)
4. Bite the bullet, spend 550 nzd (if it's in stock) on a brand new one that I can RMA easily.
What do you think is best?
For reference 1USD is about 1.5 NZD. Planned specs for computer are:
i5 4590 CPU
16GB RAM
B85 Board
1TB 6gb sata HDD
DVD drive
750 watt PSU
Edit I can also get a 390 nitro for 600nzd new or a 390x tri-x new for 700.
