looking for a new monitor for a GTX 1060

Hi everyone, I just got my new build (after years of console gaming) so I need to get a new monitor.
I got the GTX 1060 and an i5-6500 CPU so I guess I'll have some nice performances.

I can't get a decision wether to get a 1080p 144Hz monitor or a 1440p 60Hz monitor

My main uses will be gaming, programming, web browsing etc. (I don't use editing softwares)

Most of my gaming will be FPS.

I'd love to hear your opinions.

I'd say 144hz 1080p with that criteria, given mostly FPS. What's your budget?
