Hey folks!
I'm building a new system and can't for the life me decide which motherboard brand I should use. I'm open for any suggestion and want to be convinced to pick your favourite brand!
I really don't want to use an ASUS board, considering their recent actions regarding AMD 7 CPU's with X3D and how they void your warranty for using the board in the intended way and installing new drivers. I don't want to support them at all after how they started treating customers.
Gigabyte did better, but also left a "sloppy" impression. I would still consider them though.
For anyone wondering what I'm talking about: Check out GamersNexus and JayceTwoCents videos on "exploding AMD Ryzen 7 X3D CPU's". They covered the topic in great detail.
I only ever had good experiences with products from MSI (only talking about boards), but I have seen many people online who didn't.
Always heard bad things about ASRock, but I looked them up and they seem to have become decent over the last years.
Overall, all the big brands have kinda mixed reviews and there is somehow always a customer who had a very bad experience and no brand seems to be much more on the positive end than the other (maybe besides ASUS, stand now). I checked reviews on many different platforms to build my current opinion on the brands (Amazon, Alternate, Mindfactory, Caseking, NewEgg, YouTube Reviews, etc.)
Weirdly enough, the specific boards from ASUS that fit my current needs seem to be super well received by everyone and the specific products have matching reviews and ratings. My opinion on ASUS still stands, but this is very conflicting.
What are my current needs? - Or rather: What do I want?
B650 ATX
At least 1 x PCIe 5.0
At least 4 x SATA 3
At least 2 DDR5 Slots
At least 2 M.2 Slots (Should come without sacrifices, if used)
At least 1 PCIe 4.0 with enough room in between the main slot for the GPU to install an ASUS Essence STX II soundcard I want to migrate from my old system.
AMD EXPO would be good, I'm open to not overclocking the RAM though.
What am I willing to spend?
Whatever is necessary! Optimal would be between 200-300€, but I'm open to spend up to around 400€ as long as I have a solid board (Sadly, pricing for DDR5 boards is still an issue). I just want to have peace of mind when installing it and don't want to worry and have to deal with terrible bugs and problems whenever driver updates are rolling out. (I am aware that basically every brand is doing a bad job with their BIOS software and that there are many individual problems)
What is my comp?
- Corsair 5000D Airflow
- AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, 6x 4.7GHz, 32MB L3-Cache
- AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX | Sapphire Pulse
- 32GB DDR5-5600/6000 Corsair Vengeance | 2x 16GB | CL30/32 Rx8 Density (module depending on the mainboard and the according QVL list)
- 1000W - be quiet! Straight Power 11 Platinum
- Noctua NH-D15S chromax.black | 140mm
- A couple of fans and SSDs as well as HDDs
I'm super thankful for any kind of suggestion, shared experiences or even just thoughts! Cheers!
