My friend had an Epson printer and he said it worked really well, however, I was concerned as I read in a review that the difference between the quality and cost per page figures published by Epson varied considerably from what the printer actually performed.

Supplies and support for brother printers are rarely available where I live, I was considering Canon Maxify MB470, however, the print quality is not as good.

How does the Epson one stand up to it?

Get on phone / char with reps from both companies, and make them quote pages-per-ink-cartridge yield. When you're talking about $300 office device, this information should be freely available, but buried depply somewhere (if at all).
