Are you looking for a new processor for that board? Not really any better options.

You can overclock the FX-6300 as much as it will go, that will be more cost effective than picking up an FX-8300/8320/8350/8370. Those two extras cores won't do much for the vast majority of games.

If you mean to replace the system board and CPU, then you are looking at needing new memory. DDR4 to go along with any newer CPU. (Which would basically be buying an all new computer) Something like a Ryzen 2600 or i5-8400 are decent budget choices. i7-8700k being the current best choice for gaming.

If you want to do an upgrade on a semblance of a budget, then the best option would be an Intel Z97 motherboard and an 4th generation i5 or i7. Best DDR3 CPU available is basically the i7-4790k for gaming (If you exclude high end desktop, but LGA2011 motherboards are going to be pricey)

If you're staying with that AM3+ platform, grab the FX-8350 while they are still available. There may be some minor CPU bottleneck at some times in some games, but it should still be a solid performer. I still have a FX-8350 (4.5GHz) and it runs well with my GTX 980 which is about the performance equivalent of the GTX 1060.

I would save even that money. $80 is a good chunk of change. 8GB of memory, a whole B450 motherboard...

FX-63xx or 83xx isn't a bad pairing with the GTX1060, but if you are targeting high frame rates (like 150FPS on CS:GO or something) then the CPU will definitely be the limiting factor.

All comes down to what you have to spend.

Well damn. Will there be a bottlenecking issue if I just keep the fx 6300 with a 1060?

Yes, there will be bottlenecking, but it really depends on what you are doing. Games that require a lot of GPU resources will certainly show an improvement. Those that require heavy CPU usage will probably stay about the same performance, though you could increase graphics settings.
