Looking for a replacement radeon hd 4850 graphics card for a dell studio xps 435mt

Hi folks,

I've had a dell studio xps 435mt for a few years and I think my graphics card an Amd radeon hd 4850 has given up the ghost. Getting a 'the display has recovered and reset' type of message plus distorted images, the blue screen of death etc.

I have updated the drivers, tried fresh installs of windows vista yet still happens.

I was wanting some recommendations for a new graphics card ideally I am happy with a replacement card for the one I already have but these seem pretty scarce, I assume as it's now a few years old. I only really play Football Manager and use my PC for watching movies, general browsing of the net, you tube videos etc. I just want the thing to run haha!

My system is:

Windows vista 64 bit edition

I7 processor (can't remember exactly)

System chipset - intel x58 ich10

8gb ram

750gb hard drive

Power supply - 360 watt

DVD rewriter drive and blu ray drive.

Budget is as low as possible and really just looking for a modern day equivalent of the 4850 I have.

Just get a gtx 750 for about $100 which should be the best considering your power supply. It's also much faster than your 4850

Even an R7 250 should be fine considering you don't play demanding games

I'd would suggest going for a GTX 750ti for about 100 pounds.

The 750ti's performance is very high when considering its price. Even though you may not game alot you may choose to in the future.

Way out my price range I'm afraid, appreciate your reply though. I am not a big gamer at all, only games I play are the football manager games on PC and Gta 5 on the ps3. Never have or will be a big gamer.

Any other recommendations as an alternative? Much cheaper too.

The reason I suggested the 240 over the 250 in my previous post was cause of the extra gig of VRAM on the 240 just incase he gets another monitor. Plus the performance difference between the 240 and the 250 is not very large so he could save some money.

The extra gig of vram would not help on such a low end card. Even if he gets a second monitor, the desktop hardly uses vram. DDR3 cards should not even be considered these days as you can get 3x the bandwidth on DDR5 cards
IMO, the performance difference is significantly large between the 240 and 250. Saving a mere 3 pounds does not justify the performance gap between them
