I'm having problems with my gaming PC. When I pressed the power button there was a brief flash of all the lights on the case fans and the fans would flicker for a secon and then it would shut off. Now it doesn't even do that. I tried the paper clip jumping method on the 20+4 pin that connects to the motherboard. Any suggestions?

It looks like a short. New, or old setup?

It is an EVGA 500W,80 plus bronze.

If I shorted my PSU does that mean Ill have to replace my other components for example the motherboard or cpu or any other components?

Hard to say which component is defective, It depends on what component you've shorted. Usually, it's the motherboard.

Alright. What about if the cpu dies. Does that usually happen suddenly; where your playing some game and all of a sudden the PC shuts off?

CPUs rarely go bad. My first suspicion would be the power supply followed by the motherboard.

Alright. Do you know how to check to see if the motherboard is damaged?

I tried it yesterday and it didn't do anything.

Nothing happens. I tested the cord itself while it was plugged into the wall and there was power going through it so the cord isn't the problem.

I would start with either replacing the PSU or testing your current PSU in another computer.
