Hi guys, my computer has sadly started to fall apart, and I'm looking to buy a new rig. I'm mostly streaming games such as WoW and CSGO. And with a budget around 900$, what would you guys recommend? I've also heard some controversy around the i7 7700k (stuttering issues) and the rumor around ryzen 1700/1700x supposedly being better for streaming games in general.. Any ideas on that? Help is highly appreciated 🙂

Basically what I'm looking for is a Motherboard, CPU, RAM and a GPU.. (and possibly a PSU since I've only got a 550W) I could also possibly stretch to 1000$ since there is a huge sale coming up!

PCPARTPICKER is a good choice.

Streaming doesn't always need much CPU processing power. If you use something like NVidia's Shadowplay (or whatever it's called now) it uses a hardware encoder that doesn't add much CPU processing power.

Assuming USD pricing I'll see what I can do:

*I'm going to make a $900USD build that does NOT include Windows 10 64-bit, or case, or DVD player, or SSD/HDD. So just:

CPU
motherboard
DDR4 memory (2x8GB)
Graphics Card

If that's not correct, tell me.

Ιndeed,Ryzen is better for overall usage, and streaming,do to more Cores, making it better at Multi-Tasking/Streaming.

i7-7700k is really strong in gaming,fine/great for streaming as well.

I would go for the Ryzen 1700,since you would like to stream also.

I would suggest a going with a X370 motherboard,as i think X370 is better than B350 on Ryzen 7.

As for the GPU,a GTX 1060 6GB will be decent for the games you play.

As for the PSU,Corsair TX/RM and EVGA G2 550W+ are really great ones.

You will have to decide what is most important, but if those are the only parts you need then consider getting the R5-1600 (6C/12T) CPU and GTX1070 rather than a potentially better CPU but weaker graphics card.

I think the better GRAPHICS CARD will serve you better overall, unless you are certain you need the extra CPU cores. Again, STREAMING doesn't necessarily need that much CPU processing power. The AMD demos for the 8-core Ryzen CPU's were done with uncompressed video, but since YOUTUBE uploads are usually very restrictive for bandwidth anyway, it probably isn't worth doing CPU encoding especially if you need to go with a weaker graphics card for that.

Not sure of your PSU model but it probably is sufficient for this build.

GTX1070 vs GTX1060 6GB (almost 40% faster at 2560x1440, and more VRAM):

That looks super nice actually, I was debating on going for a 1600 as you stated since I really want a 1070. There wont be any bottleneck issues I suppose? Thanks for the reply 🙂

Thanks for the reply, as photonboy stated: Going from a 1060 to a 1070 is by far a bigger upgrade than let's say a 1600 to a 1700 performance wise. So I'm kinda leaning towards the 1070 path, would love to see you tweak something towards the 1070 if that's possible

yy :) If the sale goes as I'm hoping/with some luck I could get a 1700, 1070 and the other stuff for around 950$, so my fingers are crossed for that. Thanks for giving insight by the way!

BOTTLENECKING:
Since you brought it up then let me say it's not a "YES/NO" answer.

Every game is different in the CPU vs GPU load. It varies by the RESOLUTION as well as 1080p (lower res) tends to favor the faster CPU's.

CSGO would run faster on a high frequency Intel CPU for sure (just gaming, not HEAVY streaming).

But, overall many games have little to no CPU bottleneck especially at 2560x1440, and there are again other advantages such as the extra cores/threads, AM4 platform longevity etc

FUTURE DX12/Vulkan games will also slowly become more threaded and less dependent on single-core performance as they split up the main thread of code to run across multiple cores etc.

Alright, so if you wouldn't mind checking out my two builds so far/help me decide what's best for me, I would be super grateful! (Keep in mind I'm planning on streaming at 720p 60fps, I'm more of a competitive gamer, so I dont really care about maxing out the settings and so on, as I'm mostly playing games such as CS and WoW (PvP) and so on.

Would an r5 1600+1070 fit me better, or an r7 1700 and a 1060 card? I could possibly tune on some of the parts since I'm not quite at the 900-950-1000$ mark yet, debating if I should upgrade to the X370 mobo and a pair of 2x8 instead of 2x4 (Not really into content creation besides Twitch, so I'd assume 2x4 is more than fine for the games I play) Thanks in advance, appreciate the help!
