[SOLVED] Looking for a Twain scanner driver for Canoscan 8400f OS X 10.9.1 Mavericks

Canon have junked my otherwise healthy Canoscan now that Apple has downgraded to Mavericks.
Vuescan doesn't work; I hope I haven't got it wrong, but Vuescan seems to require Canon drivers to make it work. My iMac doesn't want anything to do with the Canon CD.
I have grown fond of my Canoscan and am reluctant to let it go!

I'm one fuming bunny too. A decent scanner costs a fortune and there's plenty of life in the 8400f. I think I'm going to have to let my husband have it (he's stuck on Snow Leopard; can't go any further) and fork out for another scanner. I'm fed up with this throw-away society!
