Ok so Im thinking of finally building my own computer instead of relying on using my friends.

This is what I have so far:
-Cooler Master HAF X
-AMD FX-8350
*212 EVO
-MSI N660TI PE GTX-660TI 2GB
-GSKILL RIPJAW 8GB DDR3 1330
-SEASONIC M12II 650
-WD BLUE 1TB 7200RPM SATA
-SAMSUNG 840 120GB SSD
-LG BLURAY COMBO SATA DRIVE

As for MOBO I have these in mind:
-Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H
-MSI Z77 MPOWER
-MSI Z77A-GD65

So is this a good build, and what MOBO should I go with? Stuff Ill be playing are WoW, BF3, etc., photoshop, gimp, etc. Im not looking for ultra settings or anything but you know.

Solution

No, and sorry Im new to the hardware portion of things. Im guessing since the processor is an AMD ill be looking for an AMD board then?

Hi Indervyne!

Congratulations on getting started on getting to do your first build!

Just a couple of observations.

You have an AMD cpu (AMD FX-8350) but you chose to go with Intel-socketed motherboards. If you want to stick with the AMD cpu, then go for a compatible mobo, like the ASRock 970 Extreme4.

If you want to go with those mobos you listed, then I suggest getting the i5-3570K, as it is the cpu that gives you the best bang for your buck.

I see you also went with a SeaSonic psu, which is a very good choice, as it is a very reputable brand. Although, you might want to cut down on the wattage, and grab a 500-550w model, as your system won't be able to fully utilize the 650w. Unless, if you plan on doing something like a 2x SLI in the near future.

You might also like to grab a dual-kit ram instead of just 1 stick of 8GB. The 2x 4GB ram sticks will be able to make use of the increased performance from a dual-channel.

I see you placed an asterisk before your Cpu Hsf. Does this mean that you're not sure about getting one? If you plan to OC, then do get one, otherwise the stock Hsf is fine.

Good luck!

Thank you so much.

From the looks of it the Asrock 970 extreme4 will give me what I need, unless you recommend something else.

Thanks for the ram input wasnt really sure what would be best.

So as far as I can tell everything else seems to be ok then, like the GPU and case?

Edit: One more thing I just noticed is the Gskill ripjaws is ripjaws X not regular ripjaws does that make a diff.?

Well all in all Im hoping to spend no more then $1,300. With scragnoff recom. for board and 2x4gb ram. This set up places me at around $1,250.

This is what I have so far:
-Cooler Master HAF X
-AMD FX-8350
*212 EVO
-MSI N660TI PE GTX-660TI 2GB
-GSKILL RIPJAW X 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1330
-SEASONIC M12II 650
-WD BLUE 1TB 7200RPM SATA
-SAMSUNG 840 120GB SSD
-LG BLURAY COMBO SATA DRIVE
-Asrock 970 extreme4

The ASRock 970 Extreme4 will do quite nicely, unless you're looking for boards with more features. More features would also mean they would be more expensive, which won't matter, unless you're on a fixed budget. An example would be the Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z. Lots of features, but $140 more than the ASRock 970 Extreme4.

For the Ram, I would recommend the Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2x4GB). It has a lower-profile than the Ripjaws, meaning you won't have problems when installing Cpu heat-sink fans.

The choice of Gpu is fine, and will give you decent fps with most games at high/very high details at 1080p resolutions.

The case is a great choice, as it has good thermals, excellent expansion and cooling options.

I actually have one of these in my rooms

Was just hoping to use that for the most part.

I think Ill stick with the Asrock 970 extreme4. So I guess for the most part this raps everything up unless someone else has anything more to add?

Its an impressive looking HDTV, but its not an IPS monitor! Let me put it this way, you'd break your budget with an IPS monitor of that size. By the same token, the difference in quality can't be overstated. So I guess I'd say to you, "Start saving now; you'll not regret going with an IPS monitor, whenever you wind up getting one!".
