Looking for an AM3 or LGA1156 board with SLI

So I have two existing GeForce 9800 GT cards that I want to SLI. For the CPU, I'm thinking of getting either i5-760 or Phenom II X4, mostly due to the attractive price per performance. What motherboard would you recommend? I've had good experiences with ASUS and Gigabyte boards, so I prefer those brands, but I'm open to others as well. My budget for the mobo is $100-$200, but it can be a little flexible.

The ASUS M4N98TD EVO is about the only "good" SLI MOBO for what you want to build.

Huh, how come there aren't many options? Is it because people don't usually need SLI with my mid-range CPU and graphics cards?

^ Because the other AMD SLI MOBOs have a lot more documented problems, and I know the M4N98TD EVO will work and is in your posted budget ~ look'n out for you. 😉

And yes the AMD is not as good platform or very supported SLI platform. 🙁

I looked around newegg and couldn't find any LGA1156 mobo with PCIe 2.0 dual @ x16. Do they even exist?

Yea the ASUS you linked is dual x16, but that's for AMD. I just wanted to find an Intel mobo that does the same thing to keep my options open. That way... when a good deal comes around, I'm ready to pull the trigger ^^

I {oops/duh} overlooked the i5-760, and no the 1156 doesn't {yet} allow dual @ x16. However, even 2-WAY SLI GTX 480 won't be impacted on 8X PCIe.

I built one rig with the EVGA P55 and it's an excellent MOBO and the best for OC. I really like ASUS and love EVGA and both are prudent choices.
