I have an hp8200 Ultra Slim PC I want to use for 24/7 video surveillance. It only supports one 2.5" internal drive. I need drive that can run the OS 24/7 and work ok for video monitoring. I have 4 720p IP cameras set to only record on motion. My thought was either a WD red NAS drive (good for 24/7, but not optimized for video) or maybe an SSD. I thought of an internal NAS for the OS and an external video drive but cost is a concern too. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

WD Purple are drives optimized for surveillance and can run 24/7; however, they should not be used for the OS,

A SSD will most like show signs of trouble once it starts filling up and will fail due to the continues overwriting due to the video recording. Also the main reason SSD are not used in surveillance systems.

This PC is not suited to run a HDD 24/7 because it would create to much heat.

Maybe a small SSD as an OS drive and a 2TB WD Purple in an USB2.0 enclosure would work
