Hello, i'm here today with two questions, but first let me show you what i got.
Motherboard
Sapphire Pure Platinum A75 (AMD A75)

Cpu
An amd which i can't figure out what model is it. Its a quad-core 3.0ghz

Ram
2x4gb patriot

Gpu
Asus Radeon hd 6670

Psu
Summit power 450w (IPX-P4-450ATX)

HDD
x2 Wd 250gb Barracuda 7200

1st question)
Now, it is a really basic system. I do strictly graphics on it, including video rendering, photoshop and 3d modelling and rendering.
I'm taking graphics at university and from fall i'll be required to purchase a Macbook which will cost about CAD$3200. I'm not sure if i should wait for the macbook to come and use it as a desktop by plugging an extra monitor, or slowly upgrade my desktop part by part. I would expect the macbook, considered the price, to be a really powerful candidate for becoming my main workstation. But i'm worried it may not be this much powerful so i will be better have a desktop as the main workstation.

2nd question)
If i decide to upgrade my desktop i think i should start from the mobo as mine is more than 10 years old. I would like to be able to have 2 gpu's in the near future.
Also, i'm going to keep my system an AMD rather than intel as my macbook will be intel. I'd also love to have a huge file transfering speed. I think for the speed it matters how many rpm the hdd is equipped with. Finally, probably going for a cheap SSD to try.

If somebody could help me figure out my situation i would really appreciate. Thanks in advance to everybody.

Solution
Hi,

If you can provide the model info for the Macbook that would be helpful. Based on the price I am thinking that it is a Macbook Pro 15 inch with the i7-6700HQ CPU.

The i7-6700HQ is a fast mobile processor but desktop CPU's will always crush the mobile versions.

If cost is not an issue and having a more powerful computer for graphical processing is desired, then build a desktop. A more powerful computer will save time, especially with rendering.

Quite honestly, there is nothing in your current build that I would save. 10 years is an eternity in computer...

Quite honestly, there is nothing in your current build that I would save. 10 years is an eternity in computer terms. If you could provide a budget then a build could be suggested. If you are not comfortable with assembling computers and since you are Canadian, if the parts are ordered from NCIX.com for a small fee they will assemble for you.

Here is a sample build (I know, pricing in Canada is really hurting right now). This will be significantly faster than the Macbook.
