I am going to upgrade from my ancient 1680x1050 22" monitor to a 2560x1440 one. My budget is $250, so I don't want the high-end A+ panels or monitors. Also, I'm not into hardcore gaming, so I don't need more than 60 Hz. A few dead pixels are fine and I don't care much about backlight bleeding. I already found two candidates:
Wasabi QHD277: 27 inches, 6.5ms response, 1m:1 contrast, AH-IPS, slow shipping. Link
Acer G257HU: 25 inches, 4ms response, 100m:1 contrast, IPS, fast shipping. Link
I typically sit 23" from my current monitor. My vision is not very good, and I would like to see the monitor without glasses. I did a lot of calculations and it looks like I wouldn't be able to distinguish every pixel on a smaller monitor than 27".
Another factor is the picture quality of the monitor. Is 6.5 ms. good enough for games, and what response time is considered average for IPS monitors? It's okay if the monitor I get isn't optimized for gaming, but it would be nice if it is. Does the contrast ratio really make a difference after 1 million:1?
I'm also worried about the build quality of the monitor. Sure, the Wasabi isn't the best, but I want something which will last for 5 years. The eBay seller looks shady, so it's weird how I only have to pay $20 more for a perfect-pixel guarantee.
Please tell me whether I should get the Acer or the Wasabi, and if neither of them are good, suggest a different one.
