Hi, I am planning to upgrade my monitor which is a 24" Dell 2405FPW although I have had no problems with this monitor it is now 6 years old and I'd like a monitor to match my new £1500 pc. I have 2 x MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 crossfired.

Approximate Purchase Date: this week

Budget Range: whatever suits the needs best up to £1200

Monitor Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming then watching movies

Physical Size (Diagonal): 30"+

Computers and Other Devices To Attach: 1 computer connected with HDMI

Speakers: Not Required

I'd would be good to have a desk mount so I could move and tilt the monitor.

Can someone recommend which monitor is the best for my new pc?

The hp zr30w is a very good gaming 30 incher. It lacks scalar, so it can't for instance display a 1024x768 image across its entire screen, or adjust it's tint. But if you have a modern gfx card you can do those things on it. The lack of scalar significantly reduces the amount of input lag through the monitor making it responsive in games.

The dell u3011 is another good option (if you buy it on sale). It's almost exactly the same thing as the zr30w only if has scalar (but it costs more, has more lag, etc...)

thanks for the speedy response magic. I am seriously considering the dell u3011 for around £900. Will there be a big difference with the one I have at the moment?

I happen to have both a u3011 and a 2405fpw. The u3011 is at least slightly better than the 2405 in every possible way.

It's slightly faster, has slightly better color, and is much bigger.

Theoretically, the 2405 has darker blacks, but I've never noticed this.

You can get around the zr30w's lack of scalar by having your video card do it, and it will be 15ms faster than the u3011, but the lag on the u3011 isn't bad.
