Is this an open budget where you're looking for the bang-to-buck price points or what?

In that case, i5-2500k w/ z68 mobo (you may need quick sync), 8GB DDR3 (1.5v, 1333 cas 9... 1600 mhz cas 9 if it's similar price), and a SSD. That will give you a fast, balanced system.

edit: Why don't we try it this way. You list what you have and what you're planning on upgrading, and we can give you advice on if it's a good deal or if there are better parts for similar prices.

Let's say keep it around a $1,000-1500. My current PC is <2 years old. I have 1TB hard drive (should add a solid state?), CD drives, card reader.

I would like a good listing for CPU, motherboard, graphic cards, ram, case, fans and power supply. I’ve looked around and have a good idea of what I need, but figured I could get the best advice here.

Pfffffff.... ONLY 4x4GB RAM, SLI, and a SINGLE SSD. I'd want at least 4x8GB RAM, quadfire 6970s, and SSDs in RAID 5 for my OS and apps and HDDs in RAID 10 for data.

Don't fret. $1500 for CPU + Mobo, $1500 for GPUs, and $500 for RAM is VERY do-able. That's $3500 before you even start adding $500 SSDs. And we KNOW this guy needs AT LEAST 3x 1600p screens.

CPU: Intel Core i7-3960X $1049.99
GPU: MSI R6970 Lightning Radeon HD 6970 x4 $1559.96 (for quadfire)
Mobo: ASUS Rampage IV Extreme $469.99
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 64GB (8 x 8GB) DDR3 1600 $799.99
SSD: OCZ Vertex 3 480GB SSD x3 $3299.97 (for 960GB RAID 5)
BR Burner: LG WH12LS39 $81.99
Case: Xigmatek Elysium $219.99
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 1275W 80+ Platinum $339.99
Monitor: Dell UltraSharp 30" x3 $4199.91 (for 3x 1600p Eyefinity)

Total: $12,141.83 ...before $0 shipping and $10 MIR! I think there were a few combo deals I intentionally ignored, though. Sorry, it doesn't come with Windows 7, keyboard, mouse, or speakers. But I could probably find those parts for less than $500. Just kidding $1000 more.

I have one 6850 will two work for 3 monitors? I had someone say 2 6850's wouldn't do the job. That I would need two 6950's.

One 6850 will work with 3 monitors. If you plan on eyefinity gaming (so your game spans all 3 screens), a single 6850 probably doesn't have enough power. But crossfiring 2 probably doesn't either, depending on the resolution, settings, and game. If you just plan on having a 3-screen desktop and playing games on only 1 screen, one 6850 will work well.
