Building a brand new X99 system with the ASUS Rampage V motherboard. I do not plan on doing any overclocking with this build. Trying to build a system that will have a decent lifespan for the family to do general gaming, photo & video editing, and software development.

I want to stay under $2500 for this build and would appreciate any feedback on it. Thanks!

l would not be buying an X99 PC for those uses. They are meant to be professional workstations. You will get the same performance and lifespan out of a z97 setup. I would recommend that change for sure.

Change the GPU to a gtx970. Better performance and MUCH less heat/power used.

Change to a 650w PSU

Get a 120gb SSD and a 1tb HDD

Thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to future-proof this build as much as possible by picking a motherboard that I won't have to upgrade for several years. I appreciate your feedback; thanks!

There is not and never has been anything close to "future-proof" in the PC world.

For all we know Intel will change the chipset and socket for Broadwell, and in 6 months your board will be a dead end. It happens all the time. Build a computer for NOW, not the future. this is a common mistake people always make.

I would DEFINITELY not waste money on an x99 chipset for this build. You are NOT future proofing ANYTHING by using it. Am i7 4790k will last JUST AS LONG. You buy an x99 computer because you NEED IT, not because you think it will last longer, because it won't.
