I am looking for free video editing software with simple features such as add bgm music, add text and merge video. Any suggestions ?

Thanks.

Hello, it's not easy to find free video editing software. The famous software Adobe Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas, Final Cut Pro is professional and paid.
If you only use it to add background music, merge video clips, you can try VidClipper. It's free to make a video with pictures, music. And you can edit video effects by adding filters, overlays, transitions, animations, etc.

DaVinci Resolve by BlackMagic is free (there's a paid "Studio" version with more features) and it's a fantastically capable editor. BlackMagic makes most of its money by selling professional cinematography cameras, editing consoles, and other hardware - they've created Resolve as an incentive to use their products. It may be more than you need right now, but as your projects grow more sophisticated over time Resolve will be able to keep up.

It's worth having a look at the "Introduction to Editing" video on the BlackMagic training page to get an idea of what Resolve is like to use and whether or not it's suited to the kinds of projects you have in mind.
