Hey, so I've been running a low grade system for far too long and i keep upgrading the wrong parts, I've recently upgraded my 970 to a 980ti and i've seen minimal improvement, all my games drop far too low in fps and i have to run on very poor settings to make it playable around 40 fps. And I'm honestly tired of it. I've come to the conclusion that its because im running a trashy AMD cpu, and If i upgrade to something better, it would be worth my while. But is it worth spending all the money on a new motherboard and cpu for an intel like the 6700k or the 6600k right now, or is it a good idea to downgrade to maybe a 6500? Or is it worth waiting for AMD Zen? I want a cpu and mobo that i can get good preformance out of my 980ti and i would like my system to last fairly long. Also, if you suggest an overclockable cpu, maybe hint to which good motherboard would get a nice and safe overclock on. My budgest isnt low or anything, but im not trying to spend like 1000$ on something. Im looking for somehting more reasonable, espeically with holidays comign around, Money is tight, but not too crazy. (Also links to mobos, cpus, and new ram would be much appreciated.) THANK YOU.

That will do you well. Good overclocking board, best budget cooler on the market, 16GB of high speed RAM, and a 6600k.

I'd start by buying a solid cooler and overclocking your current Cpu. That'll net you some immediate gains for about 30 dollars spent, and some time looking up overclocking on the interwebz(assuming you haven't already). That cooler will be used on a new cpu anyway, so it isn't like you'll be wasting money.

That'll get you by immediately, but yes, buy a new Cpu/Motherboard and Ram. That's your best bet. If you aren't into overclocking, a good Intel 6500, 16gb's of ddr4 and a good h170 motherboard will cost you under 400 dollars, and closer to $350.

As elbert said, ZEN is being announced today and it's likely that they'll tell us when production will start.
For now, production is set to start in Q1 2017, which means if you wait, you might get a good AMD chipset or at least get a better deal on a 6600k.
Personally, I'd wait for ZEN.
You could overclock your chip and it will give you some performance benefits, until ZEN is released.
