Hi,

The time has almost come for a new streaming/gaming PC. My current Scan PC has lasted 6-7 Years with a midterm upgrade to a 1080 (4770K, 16Gb ram).

I will of cause get a quote from Scan again, but having compared with PC specialist they are more expensive (and the difference is many 100's of pounds on a £3K system).

While I have build systems in the past I like the 3 years (1st year onsite) warranty. With my current system, the 780 graphics card actually did die in the first 3 months and Scan did send me out a replacement the next day, so great customer service as you would hope as an old customer.

As the 3080's are in short supply atm, I have decided to wait to see what AMD will do regarding Zen-3 before ordering as we should hear the news on the 8th of Oct.

What I intended to get:

AMD new version of the 3950X whatever that will be called.
64Gb ram 3200mhz
3080 graphics card (I have a 32" 4K Acer Predator with G-sync 30-60fps and a dell 24" 1080p monitor on the side as a second monitor)
2 x 2TB SSD (M2 type)
An extra card or two for more USB ports (VR, Warthog Hotas, etc needs more than what normal MB's can handle)
I do want 1-year onsite fix and 3-year warranty.

Use case:
My Computer is under my desk and I don't need a light show
I don't want to overclock I just want it to be stable and last for streaming/gaming.
I mostly play titles like War Thunder, Elite, Cyberpunk 2077 (when it comes out). I'm not a CS GO player, so I don't need insane FPS, just good smooth-looking gameplay.
I sometimes use VR (HTC Vive Pro)
I sometimes work with Virtual Machines (hence the 64gb ram).
I want an almost silent system, slow running fans are fine.
It's likely I will upgrade to the next Nvidia card in two years time, hence not going for the 3090 now.

Questions:
I will get quotes from Scan and PC specialist but would like recommendations for others I should consider?
I'm in two minds between fan and water cooling for the CPU, what would you recommend?
Any recommendations for MB's? I would prefer MB that doesn't have any fans build in as they can be tricky to change later.

Solution
If you're going for an AM4 platform such as the upcoming Zen 3 16 core, I suggest Crosshair VIII X570 or Aorus Master for its godlike VRM and build quality -- any X570 above $300 is superb. But! They do come with a small fan under the first PCIe16x.

And definitely water-cooling. Check my CPU-Z validation underneath. 4.4GHz/1.3375v ALL CORES at 70C avg & max. I suggest Arctic Freezer II 360 with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.
