Hello guys,

So i am living in London and our not so big flat dictates that i can have either TV or a monitor and not both, so i am looking to ditch my 22 Dell U series which is a bit too small and buy 2 in 1. Trick is that i occasionally need monitor at home to do some app design so it probably needs to be IPS, although i didn't check the market recently so i am not sure if non-IPS can actually be good enough, i am not too picky here.

Other thing that i am undecided with is resolution, my apple monitor at work is 2650x1440 so i guess i would prefer to have reasonably similar ratio. But than again i am hooking it to rather oldish macbook pro and i am not sure it will handle 4k well.

Requirements:
27+ inch, pref 29+
IPS, i am tentative since i rarely use it for design it's not print so, its nice to have.
Good viewing angles is a must
thunderbolt or dvi (i am hooking it to macbook pro through thunderbolt to dvi adaptor)
Reasonable resolution (see above)
Good value for money but i would prefer to not go over 300 GBP, maybe finding some deal or discount..
Having integrated speakers would be a plus

I would appreciate suggestions. At this moment i am actually considering LG 29UT55V 29" IPS Monitor with Freeview HD Tuner — its 29, cheap, got IPS and speakers. Anyone had any experience with it?

Greetings.

My first 1440p suggestion is Crossover 2795 QHD.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Perfect-Pixel-Crossover-2795QHD-AHIPS-LED-27-Monitor-2560-x-1440-DVI-D-/131431218296?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e99e93c78
The Crossover 2795 does not use LED PWM Dimming, can be overclocked and has excellent color presets, high contrast and fast pixel response times. The best option overall IMO, and a very competitive base price. Mind the custom taxes though.

For a tax-free alternative, my first suggestion is LG 27MB85R.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-Monitor-27MB85R-B-LCD-Display-black/dp/B00II5PWR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434376828&sr=8-1&keywords=LG+27MB85R
It has excellent color presets, a matte grey bezel, low input lag and fast pixel response times. It is expensive compared to the competition though.

For a cheaper alternative, consider the BenQ BL2710PT.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-BL2710PT-Monitor-USB2-0-USB3-0/dp/B00DZFPIOU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434376693&sr=8-1&keywords=BenQ+BL2710PT
The BenQ BL2710PT uses a semi-glossy (grain free matte) coating and an 8 bit+FRC AHVA (AUO's version of IPS/PLS panel). The color presets are slightly worse than the LG but it is free from overshoot ghosting, like the LG above. It has 20ms signal delay, so it is not ideal for gaming, if this is your cup of tea.

Finally, as an alternative to the BenQ above, check the AOC Q2770Pqu.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/AOC-Q2770Pqu-Widescreen-Multimedia-2560x1440/dp/B00H51Q4MK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434377082&sr=8-1&keywords=AOC+Q2770PQU
It has slightly worse color presets than the BenQ, but it may be free of corner glow. Unfortunately, there is inter-model variation, so you need to be able to check by yourself if this apply to your particular monitor.

Great thank you!

Can you give me a short overview as to why LG 29UT55V 29" IPS is bad? 170 GBP for 29 inch IPS monitor look really tempting, whats am i sacrificing? does it not have a DVI port, how to hook it up?

I am sorry, it is not so easy to tell you. You need detailed reviews with tests and calibrations in order to judge a monitor or find a potential flaw. AH-IPS LGs generally have good color-presets and are PWM dimming free, but I cannot say more.

However, given the price difference, it must be inferior in some areas. It has smaller resolution, for one. The fact that it has the same pixel quantity horizontally but is bigger will make the image blurrier too. Also, the frame-less casings have inner black bezels which ruin the perceived black depth.

You connect it with HDMI or Display port, if no DVI port is available. Just make sure you correct the color with sRGB (limited sRGB is the default, and makes colors look washed out).
