Hi all,

I'll start this out by saying I don't particularly upgrade my system a lot so I'm looking for a lot of time using my next investment!

I'm currently using a gtx 760 and I'm thinking of jumping to a 1070 gtx. As a result, I'm also thinking of either a 144 hz 1080p tn panel or a 60 hz 1440p panel. I've got a budget of around 600 pounds for both 700 at a push.

I've read all about the smoothness of 144hz and how great it is for fps but I'm more of a rpg player myself. I'm wondering which of the two is a better investment for the years to come as I won't upgrade probably for another 3/4 years. I have a rather old i7 960 3.2 ghz (stock clock) which I'm thinking of overclocking to complement this card.

A few questions wrapped up in there about which monitor would be best for the gtx 1070. either a 1080p 144hz set up or 1440p set up 60hz ( not sure 144hz is possible on my rig)! Thinking of buying it all on Black Friday! I'm tempted most by 1440p for witcher and fallout tbh although I thought I'd hear some other people's experiences first!
Thanks for the advice in advance!!

Solution
I'd go with 1440P 60hz. RPGs aren't as aggressive as FPS games so the extra refresh rate isn't as beneficial.

But FYI, I'm playing on a 1440P 96hz screen and it's absolutely amazing.
depends what you play.
If you play loads of fps games go with 1080p 144hz, if you play other types then get 1440p. It's personal preference

Also I was running 144hz on my GTX 750 ti, lol your fine

ahh ok. I'm think I'm going to go with the 1440p 60hz then. i was wondering if it's worth getting 1440p 144hz or is it simply an added expense as it's unlikely to go past 60 on the witches 3 maxed for example? I'm hoping to get the card for around 350 and the rest on a monitor although I'm not sure that's enough for a 27 inch 1440 p monitor!

Qnix QX2710. Got it for $250ish.

However, it's a bit of a gamble I don't recommend people to do unless they're really on a budget (like I was). QNIX QX2710s have been known to get defects since they travel a very long distance (Korea to US). And good luck trying to return it to QNIX, they'll do almost everything they can to make you keep the monitor because they don't want to pay for the return fee...

Fortunately for me, my QNIX came in nearly perfect. After a few tweaks, light bleed is almost gone and it's operating at 96hz (overclocked) very well.

Yeah, I think I've seen those monitors actually but as I was put off as I've not heard of them. I'm currently looking at http://m.ebuyer.com/750549
And

I wasn't really wanting to pay nearing 300 quid for one though but I'm thinking an ips panel would be good for my gaming usage I'm not a competitive gamer.

If all else fails. There is a Aoc monitor for 215 27inch not ips seems a really good deal. Aoc is another brand I haven't heard of and I'm weary about. I've decided 27inch is the best screen for 1440p as that's what everyone is recommending otherwise it's too small!
