Looking for headphones...

I am loking for a set of cans that have/are:

- comfortable for ~2-4 hours continuous listening
- single-sided cord
- good reproduction of bass-heavy music
- the original cord can fit in a computer sound card (i dont like adapters, but its ok)

I dont care too much about looks, open/closed, or full/earbud.
Price is not too important but try to keep it under ~$150).

Personally I like some of the stuff made my Sennheiser and Shure.

Comfort is subjective. What I find comfortable someone else won't. I found these two comfortable.

These have terrific sound too but are considered earbuds (wire on each side.) and are a little above the price limit you listed.

I do not know for sure how these sould with heavy base, but they both sounded natural to me. (I don't listen to boosted base music.)

If you want ones with a mic Sennheiser makes some very nice ones too. I use one of theirs on my computer.

senn hd 555s are very good value

i have 280pros and they are good too, but they have a tight fit to cancel noise, they might not be too comfortable for more than 2 hours. i dont mind em but some do. sound is VERY balanced. bass is deapest around, but it isnt too emphasized. (quiet but excellent quality)

try www.headroom.com for headphone reviews. their prices are usually about 10$ higher than you can find elsewhere but still very good and consistant.

www.head-fi.com its a headphone specific forum and they go crazy there givign advice. toms is great, but i wouldnt try to find headphones from toms,
many people there own 4+ sets of 100$+ headphones. they're crazy but very helpful too.

I have the icemat siberias and I like them a lot...the microphone cord is removable and they're definitely comfortable enough to wear for 2+ hrs

HD280pro or HD-555???????

i cant make up my mind! im not sure if the hd555s will give enough bass.... anyone experienced with it? tell me!

Hmmm...Sealed vs. Open-Back. I'd probably go with the 280pro. The HD595's that I own are not that much of a step up from the 555's and while they sound good and give the music immediate presence I'd not recommend them for bass-heads (of which I have lovingly been). The sealed back 280pro will give some noise cancellation and may keep that bass resonating just the way you desire. For some more info, read on:

so halcyon, do you think that the bass in your hd-595's are "OK"? what kind of music do you listen to that have bass? and for myself, i listen to all sorts of music (from mozart to Rob D and the matrix osts) i also have a set of z-5300e's with an audigy2zs... if that helps in understanding my taste in bass. i dont mind if its closed/open since i live in my own room.

Oh I absolutely like the HD595's, they've got plenty of bass, though not as much as the GRADO SR325i's. I listen electronic music, mostly, House and Trance (ABF) with occasional excursions into Pop, Jazz, and (forgive me) Rap.

The HD595's are a better all-around can, I think, and are comfortable enough to listen to for hours and sound good enough so that you don't have to turn them up to enjoy good sound, thus preserving your hearing. I know you're considering the 555's which share a lot of the same design cues. Though I've not listened to the 555's they typically get great reviews. ...it totally removes strain from the 1/8" input jack, yet its $15 price may seem steep.

These are the headphone that i payed $1.99 CAd for and they are the best headphones ive ever used. They sound great on high volume, There lounder then my speakers and sound great for everything ive used them for. They sound great listening to anything from heavy metal to playing shooters. They give you a great audio expaeriance when using them.

Can't say I'm familiar with or have read any press on these, I wonder how they compare to Sennheisers, Grados, or AKGs in their price range.

I can personally vouch for these.

They have an excellent "force feedback" which is basically a vibration effect in the headsets to go along with the bass. The vibration is also controlled the same as the volume (adjustable slider).

I game quite a bit and these are an awesome fit for comfort as they encompass the entire ear... once my room mates used em they loved em and ordered a pair. They are also listed on newegg but for about 50 bucks I believe (that's where I bought em)
