So I have a rig that I am trying to install a second SSD to and I was looking for some advice on what options look best. My motherboard is a Asus Maximus VIII Hero and I already have a Samsung 850 EVO SATA III in my build. I am looking to get a second 1TB SSD to add some storage to my computer and I was particularly interested in a M.2 SSD in order to cut down on the wires and just for the sake of simplicity.

Problem is that it is not that simple apparently as I threw away the box that my motherboard came in and I no longer have the M.2 screws. Going through Asus customer service has been less than helpful and trying to buy the screws online seems overly expensive and slightly scary to a novice like me given that it seems that there is size variation for the screws themselves and most of the listings for the screws don't specify size and I'd rather avoid the potential headache of having to return them, etc.

So, all of that to say that I am still interested in a second SSD and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations that is around the price of the Intel 660p that I was originally considering.

Yes I did check and unfortunately it wasn't in there, came in a little baggie with some of the other components and unfortunately I did not think that far ahead lol. So it seems as though I might be stuck getting another SATA SSD, are there any reliable models that are around the price point of the 660p? $100 for 1tb is kind of the sweet spot that I was looking for.

That certainly looks tempting as it is still cheaper than the 2.5" alternatives like the MX500 that I was looking at. My only question is does this come with the spacers too? Looking at it its not immediately obvious though I am a complete novice in the realm of these sorts of things so it might be that this jackscrew thing is just a fancy way of saying spacer?

Also looking at the reviews for this thing on Amazon, one of the reviewers specifically states that this is not a M.2 x 3mm screw set which is precisely the one that I would need according to the folks at Asus.

Yea I read that they didn't. I'm just looking for another SSD as I've filled up my 500gb 850 EVO. That's why I was considering just getting another 2.5" SSD like the 850 EVO (though my understanding is that they dont make them anymore and have been replaced by the 860) since this M.2 screw business just seems like a headache at this point.
