I'm looking to make some upgrades to my aging PC. I currently have an i7 950 3.07 GHz quad core with Hyper-threading and Gigabyte EX58-UD3R motherboard.

I also have a 1G 560ti GPU.

I was thinking of upgrading the GPU first. I don't need top of the line but was just curious how much of an upgrade to my GPU I could make without changing CPU/Motherboard.

I also have a 1000 watt power supply so no issues there I would assume.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Those old i7's were bad @ss. I had the 920 and upgrade to the 4770K simply because I wanted SATA3, USB3, and SSD's in RAID w/ trim support. My 920 was running at 4GHz and to put it into perspective, on a lot of benchmarks it flew just under my 4770K at the stock 3.5GHz. So CPU wise, you won't have any problems. The GPU is what will give you better gaming performance. PCI-E 2.0 x16 will run any single GPU just fine.

What were you looking at as far as GPU or cost?

Looking at a 760 2gb. Would this be enough of an improvement that would make the upgrade worth it? I'm cheap haha.

Wait for the GTX960's to come out this month. the NDA is lifted on the 15th so we should get more information then. I believe they do on sale the 22nd. I suspect they will be between $200-$250 somewhere and perform better than the GTX760 by a good percentage.
