Last time i built a comp was 6 years ago so its been a while. After lots of reading and searching, a build i have come up with for a gaming rig is:

Phenom II X4 940 3.0Ghz

Asus M4A79 Deluxe

Corsair CPMSU 750WATT

Coolermaster HAF 932

Coolermaster V8 CPU cooler

OCZ REAPER PC2-8500 4Gb

Sapphire HD4890

WD Cav Black 640gigs

So basically i tried to put together a build i could easily overclock, and i think thats what i got with the cpu and gpu. As well as flexibilty to add another 4890 down the road for xfire if i need it.
I guess motherboard is one thing i wasnt sure of, as it is one of the pricier non DDR3 MBs, so i was wondering if i really need that. Main reason i have it now is because of alot of positive reviews with it for overclocking as well as 2xPCIe x16 slots for xfire.

Basically for pricing im looking at 1400ish after taxes, and obviously trying to get the most bang for my buck.

Any input is appreciated.

am3 socket boards wouldnt work with a 940 unless it was a am3/am2+ board.

x4 940 is a am2+ socket cpu.

Look at the Gigabyte 790gx ud4p motherboard,

also, where are you located?

ya im fairly certain the board is an AM2+, i was kinda avoiding gigabyte cause i was reading that bios is kinda confusing compared to asus....plus my current comp has been runnin an asus board for 6 years with no hiccups.
