AS it says,im looking for the cheapest way to get my asus strix gtx 980 ti to 100% usage without bottlenecking,i know a 4790k is great for it,but the prices are a little steep for me,I have a z97-ar mobo so 1150 socket, what are my options?Would a 4690k work overclocked?

Solution
If you use the Acer monitor, it's only 60 Hz. So if you're only aiming for 60 fps, I'd say a 4690k should be fine for the most part. If you use the asus and want to take advantage of the higher refresh rate with higher fps, CPU power becomes more important so you might want to get an i7. That being said, a 980 Ti probably won't be able to get more than 60-80 fps at 1440p/max settings in AAA games anyway.

So the optimal CPU for your 980 Ti comes down to which monitor you want to use, and which games/settings you want to play.

Edit: Do you already have DDR3 as well, or just the Z97 mobo?

Yup, that should be good enough. Just make sure your PSU is good enough and you have a decent CPU cooler.

Only i5's worthy of consideration today is an 8400 and above.....

Too many folks get hit with 'i5-stutter' with 4c/4t...; not all experience it, but enough do, and, root causes can be difficult to track down.

If you have to go pre 6th/7th/8th gen, choose some sort of 4c/8t processor if at all possible....

no, i dont have any ram for it yet,and i hear what youre saying about what monitor im gonna use,its actualy a back up comp so ill use the ACER,the pg279q i have a evga 1080 ftw2,it would prolly be smarter to just get the 4790k,just in case so i have full potntial, but ita actually still pricey, even used,i seen the 4690k for as low as 80 buks,i have to think on it...thank you very much TJ HOOKER,and everyone else, gona stew on it a bit,i might just wind up splurging a little more for the 4790k
