Question Looking for network switch with 3 RJ45 10GBE ports plus 7-10 regular Gigabit RJ45 ports for $350 or lower

Does any such switch exist.

I have looked and cannot seem to find any,.

Netgear has one with 8 regular Gigabit ports plus 2 10 GBE, but just need the 3rd one.

I prefer not to Daisy chain and need 3 10Gbe RJ45 ports 1 for desktop and 1 for laptop and 1 for NAS which all will have a 10GBE.

QNAP has one, but unfortunately it has 3 SFP+ ports instead of RJ-45 and would prefer not to deal with transceivers and adapters and that stuff.

Any switch I may not be seeing or does no such switch exist that anyone knows about.

My house is already wired with CAT 6A cable.

Looking for something reliable and priced $350 or lower.

I do not want SFP+ ports.

I am looking for RJ45 ports only.

I don't believe you will find what you want. 10GE is much more likely to be SFP+ because it is more adaptable. DAC, fiber or copper.

However, are there specific reasons/requirements for not daisy chaining or not wanting SFP+ ports?

No harm per se in having room for "growth" in the future.

Likely easier to have planned ahead a bit and be ready beforehand than needing to go through through some network revision and more purchases later on.

Just my thoughts on the matter.
 
Not sure you are going to get it for the price you want. The price goes up a lot when you go from say 8 port to 16 port even if it is all gigabit.

Maybe just buy one the tplink switches with 5 or 8 10gbit ports and then add a extra switch for other ports that can use just 1gbit. I am somewhat surprised tplink even sells these, the commerical ones from HP, Dell,cisco etc cost much more.

The closest thing I find is this:


I had ordered it then tried to cancel, but too late would have to return.

I could use this as it does have 1 RJ45 10GBe port you can use instead of the SFP port

Though other 2 are SFP only for 10GBE.

plus it has 8 regular Gigabut ports and is reasonable priced.

The switch will be right next to QNAP TS-453D NAS, so I can just get an SFP+ 10GBE PCIe X4 card to put in QNAP TS-453D NAS and connect it so should be good.

Well not exactly as the compatible card is out of stock or this switch works well as a compromise as only 1 direction would need transceiver.


The only compatible low profile single SFP+ card is the LAN-10G1SR

Problem is that card is out of stock everywhere as it is no longer made and even ebay cannot find any.

There are a lot fewer options for SFP+ network cards for this NAS than RJ45 ones.

Go figure.

Now there are options that are not on this list that may work anyways with just modifying low profile PCIe bracket, but they also may not work.


It appears it uses the Marvell AQWC107 controller which should work, but someone said in Amazon reviews it did not work with QNAP NAS which gave me pause.
 
Maybe you should rethink this project. You are trying to strap rocket engines onto a economy car.

First the NAS you have only support disk drives. Many drives barely can max out a 1gbit ethernet. You are partially being limited by SATA so even if you used 2.5 ssd your speed is still limited. To actually get even close to 10gbit speeds you need to run m.2 drives.

Also be very careful when you look at speeds of drives. Seldom do you get the maximum rate. It greatly depends on the size files on the drive and where they are physically located.

Although it used to be they used SFP+ sockets because most 10gbit was fiber now days I think they do it to hide the extra cost since you pay around $50 for copper SFP interfaces. Be careful some manufactures have them rigged so they do not work with all brands of SFP so those cheap ones you sometimes find may not work in your particular equipment.

The reason the lower end nas units only have 2.5 and 5g ports is they likely will not even be able to use those effectively.

As for NAS only supporting disk drivers and not getting close to 19GBe, well I am using SSDs.

10GBe is not 10 Gigabytes per second but rather 10 Gigabits per second so you divide it by 8 for Gigabytes per second and really by 10 because of over head so really 1GB per second or 1000 Megabytes per second.

SATA SSDs are around 450 to 600MBN per seocnd. And I am doing a RAID 10 so double that speed and around 900 to 1000 MBps.

So close to taking advantage of 10Gbe with SATA RAID 10 SSD drives in NAS.
