Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: 1-2 months

Budget Range: around $1500

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Photoshop CS6, Daz Studio, Carrara, Hexagon, Coreldraw 17, Microsoft Office, Active Inspire

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: Power Supply, Motherboard, CPU, RAM (32GB), 1 SD Hard Drive

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, Amazon, B&H

Location: City, State/Region, Country: TX, USA

Parts Preferences: compatibility with Windows 7 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: That would certainly change the necessary price range; for now, no

Your Monitor Resolution: I work with 3, each at 1920 x1080

Additional Comments: I purchased a new case and the 1080 Ti, two months ago. The upgrade helped my 2014 build some, but it is still painful in DS. (Gigabye GA-H87, i7-4770 3.4GHz LGA 1150, 24 GB ram) Additional Hard drives are not needed. I have plenty.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Looking to boost performance when using Nvidia Iray View and Rendering in 3d graphics programs. Sometimes Photoshop slows to a crawl, but closing and restarting the program usually takes care of it. Otherwise the machine works great for everything else. I will be putting the components back into the former case, with the former graphics card and using it as a second machine.

Thank you for any wisdom and tips that you may be able to share.

Some of the softwares you have mentioned are better suited for Intel due to faster clocks, while others might be good for AMD with more cores. Now thats something you have got to dig further in order to figure out which platform would be better for all the softwares combined...

Thank you for taking the time to respond Hellfire13. A couple of questions. After reviewing part information, it appears that I would be able to add 32gb more ram and a second graphics cards at a later time, correct?

The reviews for the CPU Cooler: Corsair - H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($107.89 @ OutletPC) are greatly mixed; with a considerable volume of complaints about the short life time. Other similar build assist threads have Noctua - NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler as a possibility. Any strong thoughts against or for?

When I purchased the 1080ti as an upgrade for my current system, it ended up being too long for the case, but such a small amount. :/ I ended up running out to a chain and purchasing a Zalman ATX Mid Tower Case Z9 Neo - White. Other than what pcpartpicker points out (Zalman - Z9 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case does not have front panel USB 3.0 ports) would there be any issues with the components you have recommended?

Thank you.

The Noctua NH-D15 is one of the best coolers out there, and I would personally take it anyday over an AIO. I mistakenly assumed that you are not an air-cooler kind of guy. ;) My bad.
Now, having said that, the NH-D15 is a mammoth cooler which wont fit the Z9 case. However, the NH-D15S can fit. Same cooler, concised to fit most cases. You can also check out the ND-D14.

Thanks!

I am watching prices while the Amazon frenzy is on.
Could you help me understand how much of an impact/difference there is between:
SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 2280 500GB PCIe Gen3. X4, NVMe 1.3 64L V-NAND 3-bit MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V7E500BW

and

SAMSUNG 970 PRO M.2 2280 512GB PCIe Gen3. X4, NVMe 1.3 64L V-NAND 2-bit MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V7P512BW

While reading more, I have come across reviewers of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit stating that new processors and motherboards don't support 7 use. Is this true of the recommended components?

While in most cases, there is hardly any difference noticed in real time, in productivity tasks like rendering and content creation, the additional Write speed can be very useful, specially if you are working with large files. However even the Evo is fast enough for you to skip the extra 30 odd bucks, but since you have the budget for it, you should reconsider it for its added utility.

New gen. Intel/AMD hardwares do not support Windows 7 officially. There are ofcourse mods and tweaks to run it, but there are often compatibility issues faced while doing that, as the internet is full of complaints. Microsoft will officially end the extended support for Win 7 by Jan 2020, after which running it is a security risk.
"Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 on January 13, 2015, but extended support won't end until January 14, 2020. "

Ugh. I am aware of when extended support ends. I am completely content with 7. I have both 8 and 10 at work, and do not care for them.

What is your recommendation?

If you can tweak it to run on current hardware without any issues, then its fine. Contrarily, you can tweak Win 10 to run like Win 7.
But, do not run it after support ends, as the Security updates we get now will not be there, and without them, its a major risk.

You have been extremely helpful. If I take the plunge with Windows 10, do you know off hand of a guide for tweaking it like 7? Or shall I start my internet searching now?

After being unable to get the new build to post and the speaker repeatedly telling me that I have no ram installed - not matter what configuration put in, I went to the manufacturer website and discovered that the Recommended RAM is not listed as compatible with motherboard.

The QVL list contains the units tested with the board. If its not tested, that does not mean it will not work. Sometimes, even the QVL units does not work due to whatever reason. This could be a case of faulty kit as well. You can RMA with the same unit or exchange it with one that is on the list.
