Hi forum. Kind of a noob question. I was thinking of replacing my CPU fan on my Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO as it is growing old and starting to make noises. I was thinking maybe a Noctua NF-F12 or a Cougar CF-V12HPB. I am also wondering about the specs of the two fans. It says that the Cougar has a lower noise level at 17.9 dBA while the NF-F12 is slightly louder at 18.6 dBA.

Here is the part I don't understand. The units for air flow on both the Cougar and Noctua fans are different. Could someone just clarify what the difference is? If you could please give your preference on which one I should go for or if there is another fan you want to suggest I would appreciate it. :)

All feedback is appreciated :)

i haven't used either - the last fans i bought were Enermax which were ridiculously silent, and a few various Scythe fans (some silent, one quite loud). the stock fans that came with my CoolerMaster case are very quiet and push good air, and the one that came with my Corsair H50 is a loud mofo that i want to replace soon.

really, i tend not to believe most of these specs for noise. some are under specific conditions that you don't have at home, and others could be flat-out lies that you simply have no way of disproving so they don't worry about it.

i'd try the Cougar as well - cheaper and you can probably get the BIOS to turn down the speed a bit if it's too loud at max power.
m3/h is cubic meters per hour
cfm is cubic feet per minute
cmh is cubic meters per hour (again)

normal flow rate units. there should be plenty of online calculators to convert from one to the other.

the noise specs are too close to each other to be of any significance if they're legit numbers

Alright thanks for clearing that up for me! Also if you could, would you mind telling me which fan you would rather go for? I just wan't a fan that would give me the best performance. If they are too close to tell than I may just go with the Cougar because it is cheaper and would fit my color scheme very nicely.
