looking for new printer

hey everyone,

I have been looking to get a new printer for a while but i can never find what i am looking for.

does anyone know of any AIO inkjet or laser printers that will allow you to still print in grayscale when any of the color ink cartridges run low or out of ink?

thanks

there a little captain in you :)
with any ink jet that out now in the drivers you can set it to print in color..or in black and white. most of the newer ink jets now do have ink saving features. for cost on black and white printing those small samsung laser printer that do duplex are not a bad buy. i have an old m283x printer got it for 40.00 on sale at staples. it does 3,000 pages from one toner cartridge. the 3 party oem units are 15.00 on amazon. (with ink jets and toner now most of the new printer have chips in then that do page counts. ), that how printer comp can sell printers so cheap...make it up on ink and other supply's. what nice about a good lazer printer with an all and one toner is that you can have it sitting for weeks on end and the ink wont dry out. in my house now the ink jet only prints family photos and color doc.

thanks for the info. i have been out of the loop with printers for a while and the last printer i bought which was eons ago was an epson NX330 which would not let me print un less i replaced the empty colour cartridges with and a newer brother printer inkjet i seen did the same thing. i was thinking about laserjet but with the cost of ink for the carts its hard to determine it would be worth it or not.

like i posted before the small foot print laser printer there 3000 page toner csartriges are cheap if you buy 3 party oem or recyled units. if you can find one of the older work hp printer for cheap or free. those units have big 80,000-120,000 toner cartiges.

Just to clarify, I get that your question is not quite what was answered above. There are many color printers on which you can set the driver to print only in black or in grayscale for a document. But that was not your question. There are a LOT of color printers that will simply refuse to print anything unless ALL of the ink colors are available. Trying to determine whether or not a particular printer can be told NOT to do this and print in black when a color is not there, can be VERY difficult from a printer manual. The only thing I can suggest is contacting Tech Support (or maybe Sales?) for any particular printer that interests you ans have them provide the answer IF they can.

Alternatively, as smorizio has said, you could simply buy a second low-cost black-only laser printer for such occasions.

thanks for understanding my question, i was already trying to do this on amazon with a brother laser printer but i still couldn't t get a clear answer
